# ambientCG

The ambientCG plugin builds PBR materials from the [ambientCG](https://ambientcg.com) library in your open Blender scene. ambientCG is CC0, so you need no account, key or credit.

Install it from [Plugins](https://3d-agent.com/docs/plugins).

## Ask for a material

ambientCG is mostly tiling surfaces, like concrete, asphalt, fabric and wood. Use it when you need a surface rather than an object.

> Give the table an ambientCG oak material.

> Use ambientCG weathered stone on the selected walls.

## What it builds

The agent creates a new material with a Principled BSDF and wires in the maps the asset has:

- Color
- Roughness
- Metalness
- Normal, through a Normal Map node
- Displacement, through a Displacement node

The material stays unassigned unless you ask for it on the selected objects. It then becomes the first material on each selected mesh, replacing the one in that slot.

Textures are packed into your `.blend`, so the file still works when you move it.

For more on texturing with AI in Blender, see the [AI texture generator for Blender](https://3d-agent.com/blender-ai/texturing) guide.

## Resolution

Downloads default to 2K. Ask for 4K only when the surface fills the frame. Each step up is about four times larger, and large downloads time out.

If the size you ask for doesn't exist, the agent imports the closest one and tells you.
