# Checkpoints

3D-Agent saves a checkpoint of your Blender file after every turn that changes the scene. You can restore any of them, and undo the restore if you change your mind.

## How checkpoints work

- At the end of each turn that touched Blender, 3D-Agent saves your `.blend` and stores a copy with a thumbnail and a list of changed objects.
- The save includes edits you made by hand before the turn.
- Checkpoints belong to the Blender file, so every chat that edits the same `.blend` shares them.
- They're stored in the app's data folder, not next to your file.
- If your scene was never saved, 3D-Agent first saves it as `Documents/3D-Agent/Untitled Scene.blend`.

You can also ask for a named checkpoint: *Save this as Client v1*.

## Open the checkpoints panel

Click **Checkpoints** at the top right of the chat. It appears once the chat has messages, and its number counts the checkpoints you can restore.

The panel opens on the right. Close it with **✕** or Escape, and drag its left edge to resize it.

Each row shows:

- The prompt that made the change
- The objects added, changed and removed
- **Show the code the agent ran**, when there's code to show

Quick edits in a row are grouped into one entry. Expand it to restore a single edit.

**Search checkpoints…** searches prompts and object names.

## Restore a checkpoint

1. Click **Restore** on the checkpoint you want.
2. Click **Restore scene** to confirm.
3. Wait while the dialog shows **Restoring…**. It can take a few seconds.

When it's done, **Scene restored to** and the checkpoint's time appear above the composer, with an **Undo** button.

> **Warning:** Save your Blender edits before you restore. 3D-Agent keeps your last *saved* scene as a checkpoint, not edits that were never saved.

If you restore and keep working, the panel shows tabs like **Take 1** and **Take 2**. **Current scene** marks the open version.

The agent can suggest a restore, but nothing changes until you click **Restore scene**.

### If a restore doesn't finish cleanly

| Message | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| Couldn't confirm the restore | Click **Try again**. |
| Restored, but Blender didn't reload | Reopen the file in Blender. |
| Restored, but the list is out of date | Click **Refresh**. |
| Open the original project | The open Blender file isn't the one these checkpoints belong to. Open that file first. |
| Missing external images | Reconnect the image files in Blender. |

## Try variations

Ask for alternatives, like *Try the table in oak, walnut and glass*. A **Choose a finish to keep** card appears. Pick one to apply it. Your current scene is saved first, so you can always go back.

## Find when something broke

Ask *When did the roof break?* The agent shows saved renders one at a time. Answer **No, fine here** or **Yes, broken** until it finds the checkpoint.

## Manage checkpoint storage

**Settings** → **Checkpoints** lists each Blender file with its number of checkpoints, their size and when it was last edited. For each file, you can:

- **Keep the last** N **versions:** 30 by default. Older versions are removed to free disk space.
- **Reclaim disk now:** remove old versions right away.
- **Check health:** verify saved versions and repair damaged ones.
