# Permissions

3D-Agent needs a few system permissions to talk to Blender, open your files and update itself. It never asks for Full Disk Access, and it only uses these while it's running.

**Settings** → **Permissions** shows each one as **Working**, **Not working**, **Checking…** or **Can't check**.

## macOS

| Permission | Used for | Without it |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Local Network** | Talking to Blender and to its own agent on your Mac | Chat and Blender stop working |
| **Files & Folders** | Opening and saving `.blend` files, textures and references in Desktop, Documents and Downloads | 3D-Agent can't read or save files there |
| **App Management** | Installing updates | You install every update by hand |

To turn one on:

1. In **Settings** → **Permissions**, click **Turn On** or **Open Settings**.
2. In System Settings, switch on **3D-Agent**. For **Files & Folders**, switch on the folders that hold your projects.
3. Back in 3D-Agent, click **Re-check**.

If System Settings doesn't open, find 3D-Agent under **Privacy & Security** yourself.

## Windows

3D-Agent needs **Network / Firewall access** to get its local services through Windows Defender Firewall. Without it, chat and Blender stop working.

1. In **Settings** → **Permissions**, click **Turn On**. Windows Security opens.
2. Allow 3D-Agent on private networks.
3. Back in 3D-Agent, click **Re-check**.
