# What 3D-Agent can and can't do

3D-Agent ([3d-agent.com](https://3d-agent.com)) builds, edits and renders inside your Blender scene, step by step, like an artist you brief. It isn't a one-shot generator that turns one prompt into a finished asset.

## Where it's strong

- Hard-surface models: furniture, props, vehicles, tools, mechanical parts
- [Architecture](https://3d-agent.com/ai-for-architects) and interiors at real-world scale, including from exact measurements
- Low-poly and game assets: clean, quad-dominant meshes within a triangle budget, including for Roblox
- Scene layout: placing objects, cameras and lights, and dressing scenes with free assets from [plugins](https://3d-agent.com/docs/plugins)
- Editing your existing models: changes, fixes and new materials
- [Cleaning up meshes from other AI tools](https://3d-agent.com/docs/fix-ai-assets): fewer polygons, fixed UVs, tidy topology
- Renders and simple animation: lighting, cameras, turntables, fly-throughs and keyframes
- Blender automation: repetitive or fiddly tasks, run as Python for you

## Where it needs more guidance

| Task | What helps |
| --- | --- |
| Realistic characters in one go | Build them part by part, attach references, or start from an asset and refine it. |
| Organic and sculpted shapes | Give references and exact shapes. Expect several rounds. |
| Huge or procedural scenes, like kilometers of terrain or ocean | Split them into smaller pieces. |
| Complex rigs | Simple rigs and walk cycles work. Complex characters need more steps and checking. |
| Many heavy operations in one turn | Split them up. Too many at once can freeze or crash Blender, especially on slower computers. |

## How it differs from other tools

| Tool | How it works |
| --- | --- |
| One-shot text-to-3D generators | Turn a prompt into a mesh in one go. Fast, but hard to edit and often messy. |
| **3D-Agent** | Works in your Blender scene over several steps: it inspects, builds, checks and fixes. You steer it with follow-ups, and you get editable Blender objects. |
| Blender MCP with a general chat assistant | Lets a general assistant send commands to Blender. 3D-Agent is its own multi-agent system for Blender, with checkpoints, plugins and step limits built for 3D work. |

## Things to know

- Blender must be open and [connected](https://3d-agent.com/docs/connect-blender).
- A typical prompt takes a few minutes. Big prompts with a high step limit take longer.
- You can't pick the AI model, use your own API key or run a local model. 3D-Agent runs its own agents on leading AI models and updates them over time.
- You don't need 3D experience, but knowing what you want helps. See [Prompting guidelines](https://3d-agent.com/docs/prompting-guidelines).

## Next steps

- [Quickstart](https://3d-agent.com/docs/quickstart): Install 3D-Agent and run your first prompt.
- [Prompting guidelines](https://3d-agent.com/docs/prompting-guidelines): Write prompts that work on the first try.
